In April 2022, 1,362 calls were answered by Helpline 211 counselors in which 1,684 referrals were offered during those calls. This resulted in a 20,663 minutes of caller contact over the month of April. Upon further breakdown of the demographics, 68.1% of those callers identified as female and 28.3% as male, and 44.3% of our callers were black, 45.4% white and 6.7% unknown. The majority of our callers were in the 36-49 age range and calling from Leon County.
Out of all of the calls answered on the hotline, the topics mentioned most often as a concern were housing, mental health, transportation and utilities. To help with these concerns, Helpline 211 counselors gave out numerous referrals to partner agencies throughout the Big Bend area. For the month of April, the most common referrals were for Catholic Charities Emergency Assistance with 91, then the 211 Big Bend Lyft Program with 48 referrals, and the Department of Children and Families OUR Florida program with 49referrals offered. These referrals, along with numerous others, provided an opportunity for callers to receive transportation, guidance on housing and rental assistance as well as help in meeting their daily needs.
